Financiers and regulators increasingly want those claims verified by an independent party against a recognised methodology, in the same way that financial statements are audited.
Verification of this kind examines the data, the calculation methods and the boundaries of what is claimed. It asks whether the supply chain has been checked for labour and environmental risks and whether the figures presented publicly can be traced back to source records. The result is a statement that lets a stakeholder rely on the claim with confidence.
